清末民初，苏州凤林镇上的“高家饼铺”远近驰名。高毓明与家中丫头碧云相恋，但高父坚决不容，碧云被迫离开。毓明奉父命与月卿成亲。毓明赴金陵洽商，遇已沦落风尘的碧云，得知碧云已身怀六甲，遂携其离开高家，碧云不久产下一女明月。十八年后，碧云临终嘱托毓明，盼明月能认祖归宗，毓明毅然将明月带回高家，但所有人都不能容她。不久，毓明病重故逝，二娘玉贞伙同饼铺大师傅卷秘方潜逃，饼铺面临危难。明月和饼铺二师傅杜浩然撑起高家家业，照顾罹病的兄长，视月卿如亲娘孝顺并不惜质押祖宅，挨家挨户的向乡人告贷。几经艰辛，明月终于赎回祖宅，重新挂上『江南第一店』的金字招牌。月卿感念明月，隆重迎回明月生母碧云的牌位，放入高家祠堂，自此视明月如亲生女儿。而浩然与明月，却终身扶持到老。。Disarmingly realistic in its depiction of the realities of frontier life, Heartland is a strong antidote to the cliches of traditional Westerns. This semi-documentary slice of life is based on the diaries of Elmore Randall Stewart about her days on the Wyoming frontier in the early 20th century. It's a strongly feminist statement about a woman raising her small daughter alone and scrapping for a living by working for a shy Scottish rancher. Director Richard Pearce brings an endearing touch to a film that is helped greatly by the dazzling cinematography of Fred Murphy. Conchata Ferrell and Rip Torn star in this small film that substitutes veracity for a high-powered plot. Pearce worked as a cinematographer on Woodstock and other documentaries before making his directorial debut. Winner of the 1980 Berlin Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival。
