香港回归二十五年，故事围绕一个奋斗家庭作为社会缩影。警员叶国栋（陈山聪饰）被委任为七一回归庆典的升旗手，却于出场前弄伤手臂，未能履行升旗职务，恰巧太太孙卓岚（唐诗咏饰）在回归日诞下儿子家梁（朱敏瀚饰），弥补了内心遗憾。回归数年，香港经历高低起跌，零三年沙士来袭，卓岚诞下幼女嘉雯（刘颖镟饰），一家人迎难而上。时光飞逝，家梁长大后背包游时遇上暴乱，幸得国家在危难中守护。看到国旗飘扬，家梁立志成为警察，守护香港，更盼望能代父亲完成当年的升旗手心愿……。Just over 40 years ago, marriage in China was arranged by the state.
